Amy Blanchard: Board Member Extraordinaire

When Amy Blanchard joined the CALICO Board of Directors in March of 2009, she hit the ground running, and her passion for CALICO’s mission has only grown, as shown in everything she does. From her many hours spent making sure events go smoothly to her enthusiastic, daily engagement on our Facebook page, Amy always goes above and beyond to help CALICO. And since Amy is one of CALICO’s most vocal advocates, we decided it was time to turn the tables and applaud her.

“Amy Blanchard is an amazing fundraiser, skilled strategic thinker, and driven and relentless in pursuing funds and friends on CALICO’s behalf,” said CALICO Executive Director Victoria Gwiasda. “At any given moment, Amy effortlessly balances the roles of tireless champion for abused children, my confidant and guide, and one of the best allies CALICO could have.”

As chair of CALICO’s Fund Development Committee, Amy has helped CALICO’s events reach new heights of success. She was instrumental in securing Presenting Sponsor Perforce Software for CALICO’s Picnic in the Park this past May, whose $10,000 contribution launched a record-breaking event in terms of funds raised. For the past three years, Amy persuaded several friends and co-workers to join Team CALICO in the Oakland Running Festival, and each time her recruits were among our top fundraisers. Last year, she organized a special, intimate fundraiser with her friend, author and food scientist Barb Stuckey, where attendees were entertained by food experiments and schooled on the science of taste. Amy also helps organize the annual CALICO Crush, an after-work reception for supporters to learn more about our work and how to become involved. And if generosity with her time and networking skills were not enough, Amy and her husband Brian Hageman eagerly support CALICO as founding and ongoing members of CALICO’s Protectors Circle.

Despite all that she gives, Amy was surprised at the news of her place in the Hero Spotlight, as she attributes CALICO’s success to teamwork. She said, “I’ve seen firsthand how the dedication of the CALICO staff, partner agencies, board of directors and volunteers truly provide healing, hope and justice for children who've experienced incredible trauma.” When we reminded her of all she has accomplished for CALICO, she explained, “I am continually energized to support CALICO in its mission and try to expand fundraising efforts because the work makes a significant difference in the lives of hundreds of children and families each year. I consider it a true privilege to be part of the organization.”

We are lucky to count Amy among a group of talented and conscientious board members. "Amy serves on several board committees and brings energy, enthusiasm, and unwavering commitment to the community," said Board President Terrance Cheung. "Amy has been a tremendous advocate for CALICO, moving our mission forward to help abused children."
